Brad Pitt hires family law attorney who represented Sheen, Jackson

Brad Pitt has taken the next step in the divorce proceedings from Angelina Jolie. The actor, 52, has hired lawyer Lance Spiegel to represent him, a source close to Pitt who was not authorized to speak publicly told The Celeb Frenzy

Spiegel is a high-powered Hollywood attorney known for representing big-name clients including Charlie Sheen, Michael Jackson, Russell Simmons, Heather Locklear and Eva Longoria in family law issues. He recently represented Longoria in her divorce from NBA star Tony Parker.

According to the website of his firm, Young, Spiegel & Lee, Spiegel has "been involved in many high profile and complex family law matters."

The Pitt/Jolie divorce may be one of the highest-profile and most complex cases Spiegel has undertaken. The case has grown increasingly complicated since reports surfaced Tuesday that Jolie, 41, had filed for divorce citing "irreconcilable differences" and seeking physical custody of the couple's six children, Maddox, 15; Pax, 12; Zahara, 11; Shiloh, 10; and Vivienne and Knox, both 8.

On Thursday, TMZ reported that Pitt is being investigated by authorities in Los Angeles for allegedly getting verbally and physically abusive with his children while in the air on a private plane and on the tarmac after landing in Minnesota on Sept. 14. Jolie listed the couple's date of separation as Sept. 15 in court documents.
The Los Angeles Police Department denied it was investigating Pitt, but USA TODAY confirmed the actor has been interviewed by the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services.
