Beauty and Brains Gets Accepted Into 45 Colleges, Receives More Than $4 Million In Scholarships

A North Carolina teen has been accepted into 45 colleges receives more than $4 million in scholarships according to WTVD. Ive Jones a senior at Apex Friendship High School located in Apex, NC.


Many graduation commencements have been canceled all across the country due to the COVID-19 virus. Jones is graduating summa cum laude with acceptance into 45 of the 50 schools she applied to.  Jones is now preparing to attend Princeton University.

“Being awesome was being authentically me, and I didn’t know that until I saw other Black kids doing it,” Ive told Because of Them We Can. Jones’ mother says with or without a graduation ceremony she’s still proud of her daughter.


“I’m immensely proud of her. She’s just a hardworking person,” Catherine Jones told ABC 11. “(Graduation) was a moment we’ve looked forward to, But in everything you have to find gratitude. And you know, at the end of the day we’ll still get to celebrate."

"I’m west African and we find ways to celebrate.” At just 11 years old Jones organized a fundraising campaign to help kids in Africa who were orphaned as a result of the Ebola pandemic.


She set a goal to raise $4,000 and $30,000. In 2019, Jones organized a health conference in Raleigh young women and people of color to pursue careers in STEM. Jones plans to major in global health at Princeton where she will have a full scholarship.

“As a student, these things are things we’re going to be discussing in class and I’m going to need to know thoroughly in order to apply my knowledge later on,” Jones said.'
